Microprocessor

The microprocessor is the arrangement that contain chips which is essential for the functionalities of the system. The micro processor is sometimes referred as CPU. Not only in the computers, but also the microprocessors are used as control logic in various digital components. The three basic characteristics of the microprocessor are instruction set, Bandwidth, Clock speed. The instruction set is the number of instruction that the processor can execute; the clock speed determines how many instructions are executed per second. The power of the CPU is the direct function of the bandwidth and the clock speed.i.e if the clock speed and bandwidth is high, the CPU is considered to be very powerful. Based on instruction sets, the processor may be reduced instruction set computer or complex instruction set computer. In a single-core or traditional processor the CPU gets strings of instructions and execute them, then selectively store them in its cache for quick retrieval. The dual core microprocessor consists of two separate cores, each with one cache. To use dual core in a system, it must be configured that the OS can recognize multi-threading and software is capable simultaneous multi-threading technology. Hence the dual core definitely efficient than single-core CPU.
